The Essentially office in South Africa specialises in athlete management and commercial endeavours.
The office is headed up by Stephan Weyers and Gerrie Swart, both former attorneys with combined experience of 20 years in the legal fields of sports law, property law, trademarks and commercial law. Both are also specialists in rugby disciplinary hearings and have done work for the Springboks, the All Blacks and various Super 14 rugby teams from South Africa, New Zealand and Australia.
The Athlete Management (rugby & cricket) division is the core of the business and currently represents 12 Springbok rugby players, including Victor Matfield, Bakkies Botha, Juan Smith, Bismarck du Plessis, Heinrich Brussow and Pierre Spies, as well as several senior Super 14 players and some of the best young talent in the country.
The commercial division handles sponsorships, activations, strategy and planning, event creation, rights sales, consultancy, professional services, memorabilia, appearances and media. Its major successes have been the sponsorship activation for Yahoo during the ICC Champions Trophy in September 2009 in Johannesburg and Pretoria and the Springbok match with Leicester Tigers during November 2009. |
