Twenty20 victory for Essentially’s Paul Collingwood
Essentially’s Paul Collingwood has steered England to victory in the World Twenty20 in Barbados.
England triumphed over Australia by seven wickets in the final to take their first global one-day trophy.
The England team had been favourites to win the final after reducing Australia to 8-3. In the 35-year history of the one-day international tournaments, England had lost four finals.
They bowled and fielded with great skill to limit Australia's powerful batting line-up and triumphed with three overs to spare after Kevin Pietersen and Craig Kieswetter put on 111 for the second wicket.
After the win, Collingwood said: “The feeling was incredible – there had been a long wait for limited-overs success for England, and we as a team had ended the wait. It was a great cause for celebrations, and a fitting and deserving end to a great tour.”
The Essentially team now wishes Paul the best of luck in the forthcoming series against Australia and Pakistan.
