Garmin gives amateur golfers the chance to play The Twenty Ten Ryder Cup Course

UK, 19th July 2010; Essentially is teaming up with The Daily Telegraph to launch the Garmin Approach Challenge; a new and exciting golf tournament that will be open to all golf clubs and their members across the UK, offering them the chance to play The Twenty Ten Ryder Cup Course at the Celtic Manor on the 3rd November 2010, exactly one month after the Ryder Cup itself.

Garmin is offering the successful 50 amateur players who win their club’s selected qualifying round the chance of not only playing The Twenty Ten Ryder Cup Course, but also the opportunity to compete for a share of a £5,000 development fund for their club pro to provide lessons to junior members at their home club.

Chris Merrell, UK and Ireland Marketing Communications Manager at Garmin says: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to offer all amateur players across the UK the chance to compete on one of the great modern courses in the golfing world. We believe that in playing on a world-class course, the players will see the benefits of using a world-class GPS device like the Garmin Approach G5 and how it will help shave those additional shots off their round.”
He continues: “One of the key elements for us is not only to give the amateur golfer a unique, and memorable experience, but to also offer their club pro’s the chance to further develop the next line of young players coming through and really grow the grassroots of the sport.”
Mike Vandrau, Sales Manager at Essentially, is hugely excited about the opportunity to work with Garmin and The Daily Telegraph on developing a unique tournament: “This is a major win for our business and we are confident of delivering an unbelievable event and campaign that befits the Garmin brand. The Celtic Manor Resort remains one of the leading golfing resorts in the world, and this competition will offer golfers across the UK a chance to re-live their Ryder Cup memories on a golf course that is simply magnificent.”
