The Essentially events team managed the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2010, Visit England's annual industry event, for the third year on Friday 23rd April 2010. The team looked after the guests, technical production and event logistics, as well as managing the awards ceremony itself to ensure a seamless event was produced.
Guests arrived at the Brighton Museum for a reception of summer jazz on stilts and English sparkling wine on an exceptionally sunny St George's Day evening, with the main event taking place at the historic Corn Exchange.
Sponsored by the Caravan Club, the awards celebrate the regional finalists in 18 categories, from Taste of England to the Sustainable Tourism Award. Hotel and B&B owners, travel journalists and regional tourism bodies enjoyed a very English menu of fish and chips, spring lamb and knickerbocker glory whilst they waited to see whom host Tony Hawks, writer and comedian, would announce as the gold winners.
Amongst the quirkier categories was the inaugural Where Else but England award which was awarded to the Egg Throwing Championships in Lincolnshire. The Outstanding Contribution to Tourism Award, whose previous winners include The Queen, Michael Eavis, founder of Glastonbury Festival and The English Pub, was this year awarded to the National Trust.
The evening was finished off with a stomp-style performance from Brighton-based Clatteratti, and a well-filled dance floor courtesy of covers band The Lowdown.
