Lou Thompson attended Lincoln University, graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in Marketing and Management in 1993. After completing a post graduate diploma in Sports Broadcasting in 1994, Lou moved to Auckland in 1995.
Lou worked in sports marketing roles for five years before heading back overseas with the intention of returning to NZ to set up a sports management business. He linked up with university friend Bart Campbell, worked with Bart for a brief period in London before returning to NZ in 2000 to set up and run GSM NZ. Lou ran the GSM business up until the business was sold to essentially in 2006 and is now the CEO of essentially NZ and Japan.
As well as running the NZ and Japanese offices Lou also heads up the Athlete Management division of the essentially business globally. Lou has been involved in more professional rugby contracts globally than anyone in the history of professional rugby and has relationships that span the globe.
As well as heading up the Athlete Management side of essentially Lou is driving the commercial side of essentially in Australasia, with a focus on sponsorship, events and consulting. |
